Château Vaugelas Corbières

First impression

Really great wine. If I had not known it was French, I would have guessed Portugal.

What I tasted

Oak dominated the nose, followed by dark cherry. The overall impression was ripe, warm and generous rather than fresh or restrained.

Verdict

A very useful French discovery: southern French reds can deliver the Mediterranean richness and oak-led character I associate with Portuguese wines.
